There's been many great mods for the Homeworld 2 game. They have a Babylon 5 mod, the always popular Star Wars and Star Trek mods, and Lego Homeworld. But it's the Gundam mod that really stands out.

Homeworld 2 Gundam Mod 3.0

Why is that? Because it's the only giant robot mod in the history of Homeworld. The fighters are all replaced by giant robots. The capital ships are replaced with ships from the Gundam series.

Gundam 3.0 Mod Review

If you don't know what Gundam is, it's basically a Japanese anime space opera featuring giant robots (mobile suits as they are called) and annoying teens who pilot them. The teens seem to be gifted pilots and the whole series revolves around their abilities and problems. The battles are fought between two sides, the Earth and the colonies that want independence. So it's like the American Revolutionary War, except with giant robots.

Homeworld Gundam 3.0 Mod

The mod features various mobile suits from two sides of the conflict. They are some great looking robots with various guns blasting. One major complaint is that the mobile suits aren't as powerful as their TV counterpart. In the shows, the Gundam suit could destroy an entire ship with one blast. Not so in this game.

Gundam Mod Homeworld

The mod runs basically in skirmish mode. You have to install it using the instructions they give you by copying files to where they belong and clicking on another file. It will overwrite your Homeworld 2 settings. The mod can be set to English or Chinese. The creator of the mod is Jaf, although no details about him can be found. We're guessing he knows English and Chinese.

Gundam Mod

Our impression of the mod is that it's a very good mod. The mobile suits are very active during combat. The capital ships are nicely textured. The selection of mobile suits is good enough that it will satisfy any Gundam fan. So if you're a giant robot fan, or even a Homeworld fan, try the Gundam 3.0 mod. It's worth the download. But be sure to move your old save files, because there's no uninstall once you install the mod. You have to uninstall Homeworld 2 to remove the mod. You can find the mod here.
