So you're this guy (player created) that has to stop some robot called Fruit Fucker Prime who has destroyed his home. You get help from the creators of Penny Arcade, Gabe and Tycho. The game takes place in the 1920s. Apparently, this is only the first episode of four. If you've ever played a Playstation One rpg, then you know what to expect.
So you click on the environment which is more 2D than 3D while a narrator tells you what's about to happen. Every once in a while, you have to fight tiny robots in turn based RPG style. You gain experience, new abilites, and loot for your trouble. During the fights, you play time based minigames to deal more damage. The game has some very funny bosses and Penny Arcade style humor.
The graphics are Penny Arcade comic book style, so it's very clean. There is a lack of textures and details in the environment and characters. The characters are also stiffly animated. This game could have been made a decade ago and still look below average for its time. The music is circus bad, and the narrator is annoying. The main characters do not have voices. Most of the humor involves reading what's going on in the environment.
There's no online element to the game and the first episode takes 6 to 8 hours. It's available online because most retailers aren't going to give shelf space for a $20 game. Sadly the story and humor do not offset the bad gameplay and graphics. We like oldschool games, but this game is boring, and to expect to pay $80 for the entire saga if the other three episodes are like this is ridiculous. If you're a Penny Arcade fan, buy it for the humor. If not, wait for the compilation and buy it for $20 in the bargain bin instead of $20 for just one episode.
